Rationale

Early Childhood on Stafford is committed to the prevention of Child Abuse and the protection of children. Management at Early Childhood on Stafford will ensure that a safe environment is provided for all children in the centre.

  • The interests and welfare of the child will be the prime consideration where abuse is suspected.

  • Cases of suspicion of abuse will be reported to the Children and Youth and Family Service for investigation.

  • Staff at Early Childhood on Stafford will have access to available resource material and support on how to prevent, recognize and respond to abuse.

  • Early Childhood on Stafford will ensure all staff have had training in Child Protection and are familiar with the reporting flow chart below.

  • Current written material on Child protection will be available within the centre and will able to be accessed by parents/whanau from the Parent Library

  • Early Childhood on Stafford believes that education of children and parents is important in the prevention of child abuse.

  • Early Childhood on Stafford will run the programme “ All About Me” for children in conjunction with the Public Health Nurses/New Zealand Police Force at least biennially.

  • Early Childhood on Stafford encourages parents to make use of education programmes organised by any group or individual in the community in addition to those run by the centre.

  • Staff will have recent

  • We will run the current child protection programme for the children with the support of the Public Health Nurse
